Diagnostic test is concerned with evaluation of learning difficulties faced by learners during instruction. these tests are generally used to know or diagnose individual’s strengths and weaknesses in a particular course of study therefore the these tests are also known as analytical tests as the analyze the weakness of learner.

Diagnosis means determining the nature of learning difficulties and deficiencies.

It is related to vision, hearing, psychomotor and other aspects, A skilled person is invited to diagnose and provide remedial measures.It is related to different subjects studied by a child for a specific level or class .

REMEDIAL TEACHING:-

The term ‘Remedial” means to improve or to rectify. It is a teaching which is designed to fill the gaps in learning and generally used to bring backward students to the level of achievement of their peers or classmates.

PROCEDURE OF REMEDIAL TEACHING

  • Objectives are set as per the nature of difficulties.
  • Specific methods and techniques are used to facilitate learning.
  • Feedbacks of learners is collected to find out the weaknesses.
  • Re teaching is done along with some modifications.
  • Final performance is assessed.

FUNCTIONS OF TEACHER

Generally, it is observed that most of the times the learning difficulties are not within the learners but are related to the context where the learning is taking place , physical and learning environment of the school, peer group of learner, defective methods of teaching and others.

  • use various learning activities and design meaningful learning situations where students remain active.
  • provide clear instructions to learners to avoid confusion.
  • summarize the main points and encourage learners to participate actively.
  • show concern for learner’s performance.
  • use suitable teaching aids, methods and techniques.
  • move from simple to complex and concrete to abstract concepts.

Diagnostic Tests play a significant role in improving teaching learning process as it helps the teacher to identify the learning difficulties of learners or students and remove these difficulties to achieve the learning objectives and in broader sense educational objectives.
